Dr. Michael B. Brinkos was hired by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in September of 2010. He began his professional career in public education more than 23 years ago. After graduating from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, Dr. Brinkos served as a Special Education Teacher in the McKeesport Area School District in Pennsylvania for 10 years. In 1992, Dr. Brinkos received a Master of Science Degree in Education from Duquesne University.
After earning a Special Education Supervisory Certification from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997, Dr. Brinkos held a variety of central office administrative positions that included Supervisor of Special Education and Director of Special Education, Director of Personnel and Pupil Services, and Assistant Superintendent.
In 2007, Dr. Brinkos was awarded a Doctorate Degree in Education and his Pennsylvania Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Duquesne University. While participating in the Duquesne University Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program for Educational Leaders, he completed his dissertation entitled “Assessing the Effectiveness of a Community’s Collaborative Efforts in Meeting the Needs of At-Risk Students: Setting the Stage for Advancements of Alternatives in an Urban Public Education Setting”. In 2009 Dr. Brinkos was appointed Superintendent of Schools for the McKeesport Area School District.
Dr. Brinkos is a member of the Pennsylvania School Board Association, American Association of School Administrators, Society for Human Resource Management, American Association of School Personnel Administrators and Pennsylvania Association of School Personnel Administrators. His professional activities include: BlueRoof Technology Advisory Member, Board of Trustees McKeesport Library, McKeesport Healthier Community Task Force, Educational Sub-Committee of Allegheny County, Early Childhood Transition Team, Professional Development School Partnership of Duquesne University.
