Upcoming Virtual Community of Practice focused on Quaker Valley’s Youth Court/Peer Jury program

We are pleased to invite you and your district to participate in an upcoming virtual Community of Practice conversation on November 6, from 9:00-10:00 am. Please use this link to join the virtual meeting. No registration is required.

This meeting will focus on the Quaker Valley School District’s Youth Court/Peer Jury program, which was just recognized by the Allegheny County Juvenile Court as their Community-Based 2024 Program of the Year.

Aaron Vanatta (Chief of School Police/Safety and Security Coordinator) Dr. Deborah Riccobelli (QVHS Principal), and QVHS seniors/peer jurors, Thomas Fuener and Kwilai Karto ,will discuss how the Quaker Valley School District has established a school-based court diversion program designed to keep first-time offenders out of court by capitalizing on the most influential relationships in their lives – their peers. This model program is a cooperative effort by schools, peers, parents, and other stakeholders.

Each virtual community of practice session is part of a series of conversations that focuses on issues and shared topics of interest that encompass social and emotional wellness and learning. These meetings first began in 2023, as a means to discuss shared topics of interest relevant to Project SEEKS SES, a grant-funded partnership between the AIU and Allegheny County Health Department that is supporting ten Allegheny County school districts and three local universities in addressing social and emotional health and bolstering a local pipeline of professionals to supporting fields.

This is a unique opportunity for discussion, collaboration, and learning. We would love to hear your voices, thoughts, and unique perspectives. If you’d like, you are more than welcome to share this invitation with other district employees.

If you have any further questions or want to learn more about Project SEEKS SES, feel free to contact Shannon Fagan at shannon.fagan@aiu3.net.
