Sunrise School received a special delivery on December 16. The gifts did not come from the North Pole, but from police officers across Allegheny County.
Students waited outside the school in great anticipation as the brigade of police cars drove up the hill, lights flashing and sirens sounding. They lined the sidewalk and cheered and applauded as the officers carried bags of gifts into the building.
“That moment made it all worth it,” said Aspinwall Police Chief David Nemec. He founded Presents from Police 13 years ago and has been bringing joy to Sunrise School since 2017.
Officers from across the Pittsburgh area took time to talk to each student and help them to choose a special gift. Donations included toys, board games, balls, and dolls for children of all ages.
David Campos, principal at Sunrise School, said how special it is to watch the children interact with the officers. “I know they enjoy that part as much as the gifts,” he said.
