Dr. James Palmiero, Assistant Executive Director for Special Education & Pupil Services
Dr, James Palmiero serves as the AIU's assistant executive director for special education and pupil services, and is member of the Executive Leadership Team. A seasoned educator, Dr. Palmiero has held several leadership positions with Pittsburgh-area schools and organizations. For more than decade, Dr. Palmiero has served as the director of the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN), an initiative of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education. Previously, he served as an assistant superintendent of the Woodland Hills School District, adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, and as a curriculum specialist for the AIU.
Dr. Palmiero began his career in public education as an elementary teacher for the North Allegheny School District. A respected leader, Dr. Palmiero earned doctorate and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh as well as a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He holds a variety of credentials, including a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility and is a certified reading specialist, elementary principal, and supervisor of curriculum and instruction.
