Early Head Start Program

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Early Head Start Program:

  • Provides comprehensive child development and family support services to pregnant women and families with children birth up to the age of three.
  • Strives to be an advocate for children and families to ensure that their children reach their full potential.
  • Works to support healthy pre-natal outcomes for pregnant women, to support the development of infants and toddlers and promote healthy family dynamics.
  • Works collaboratively with parents/guardians to connect them with community resources for family well-being, social service agencies and organizations for crisis prevention and emergency assistance. Parent engagement is encouraged, with many opportunities available for family participation. Translation services are available for ESL families for initial applications and weekly visits.

Where Is Early Head Start Offered?

The AIU’s Early Head Start program offers services to the following communities:

  • Northern neighborhoods: Avalon, Bellevue, Coraopolis, Emsworth, Ingomar, Leetsdale, Natrona Heights, Ross Twp., Tarentum, West View, Wexford
  • Eastern neighborhoods: Monroeville, Plum, Wilkinsburg
  • Southern neighborhoods: Bethel Park, Bridgeville, Carnegie, Duquesne, Heidelberg, Homestead, McDonald, Munhall, Scott Twp., South Fayette, South Park, Upper St. Clair
  • Western neighborhoods: Crafton, Imperial, Ingram, Moon, Robinson
